Have you ever came across Korean dramas that kept you engaged and entertained throughout but disappointed in the end?
Well! When it comes to Korean dramas they always have amazing plot lines, however sometimes their endings are disappointing. As a result most fans drop those dramas out of their favorites. So an ending in a Kdrama is very crucial. Below are some of those dramas which did very well throughout the series but not in the end. Spoiler Alert!
1. Black
A fantasy thriller Korean drama “Black” starring Song Seung Heon, Go Ara, Lee El and Kim Dong Jun in the main cast released on 14 October 2017. It tells the story of a grim reaper who needs to find his escapee on Earth. There he gets involved in the investigation related to cold case murders and even falls in love with a human. This leads him to change his perspective and he breaks some rules.
“Black” did will among viewers and many liked the drama for its intriguing plot and characters. But in the end it went a little disappointing for some. Many complaints that the ending went upside down in the last 10 minutes of the final episode. And the whole drama itself didn’t make sense then. It is a fantasy show and the ending actually became confusing for many due to its fast pace. Overall it is a good drama.
2. Boyfrie3nds
It is a web drama that released on July 3, 2019, on Lululala Story Lab YouTube channel. It has Kim Ji Eun, Park Sung Woo, Moon Ji Hoo, Lee Jung Sic in the main cast. “Boyfrie3nds” tells the story of a girl named Lahi who gets amnesia after an accident. Later she finds out that she had three boyfriends.
Just as interesting as the plot sounds, it disappoints the viewers as much in the end. In the middle of the series Lahi gets confused between the three and decides to choose one and tell the truth. But it is hardly clear in the last episode whether she chooses one or not, and it remains a confusion to this date. Check the Review Here.
3. Start-Up
A recent hit “Start-Up” starring Bae Suzy, Kim Seon Ho, Nam Joo Hyuk and Kang Han Na in the main cast released on 17 October 2020. It tells an inspiring story of individuals who enters Sandbox (a company that provides financial aid and mentorship to Start-Ups) and struggle to make their own company.
Besides, having an inspiring story “Start-Up” also has an engaging love triangle that literally created fans wars. Bae Suzy’s character need to chose one in the end and her choice definitely disappointed many. Moreover, it felt unfair to Kim Seon Ho’s character but many fans got the ending they wanted.
4. Record Of Youth
Actor Park Bo Gum’s last drama before military enlistment “Record Of Youth” released on 7 September 2020. Park So Dam and Byeon Woo Seok are also in the main cast. It tells the story of three young individuals in their 20s who are trying to make it big in the entertainment world. Sa Hye Jun and Won Hae Hyo are childhood friends. They both are struggling to make it into acting after modeling. Ahn Jeong Ha wishes to open her own makeup salon.
“Record Of Youth” tells a beautiful and inspiring story of the youth. The relationship of Park Bo Gum and Park So Dam is also very relatable and beautifully shown. However, many characters in the series didn’t get a clean finish. It felt like the story was left in between for other characters. Check the Review Here.
5. I’m Sorry, I Love You
“I’m Sorry, I Love You” released on November 8, 2004, stars So Ji Sub and Im Soo Jung in the main cast. It tells the story of Cha Moo Hyuk, who was abused by his foster parents in Australia. As a result he was left homeless and often survived by scamming the tourist in Australia. One day he meets Song Eun Chae, a fashion coordinator of famous Korean singer, Choi Yoon and their life takes a turn as Moo Hyuk tries to find his birth parents.
This is a melodrama that is highly emotional and fans warns to put a tissue box with you while watching “I’m Sorry, I Love You”. But the saddest part of it is the tear-jerking sad ending which makes the drama feel incomplete to many. Watch it only if you like watching sad dramas.
6. Vagabond
Vagabond is an action thriller starring Lee Seung Gi, Bae Suzy and Shin Sung Rok in the main cast. It released on September 20, 2019. “Vagabond” tells the story of an infamous stuntman Cha Dal Gun, whose nephew dies in a plane crash. Things get serious after he sees one of the passenger alive from the same plane in Morocco. There he meets Go Hae-ri, a covert operative for the NIS. Together they dig into the case and finds out a huge corruption.
“Vagabond” is a fantastic drama with intriguing plot and amazing characters. However, it’s ending is slightly disappointing as it leaves the viewers with so many questions. And above all the lead character was not able to fulfill his mission. The ending leaves the possibility for a second season, but it looks like fans have to wait more.
7. The Third Charm
Starring Seo Kang Joon and Esom in the main cast Korean drama “The Third Charm” released on 28 September 2018. It tells the on and off relationship of the two with completely opposite personalities over 12 years. As they meet each other in their 20s and then 30s.
“The Third Charm” is a highly relatable drama when it comes to today’s relationship. In the starting the drama has a rom-com style to it while in the second half the drama takes a sad turn, and it is much more melodramatic. The series shows on and off relationship of the main lead and in the end it appears that the two didn’t end up together. However, many didn’t like it for the sad turn of the drama.
8. The Last Empress
A Korean makjang “The Last Empress” did well among viewers. It released on November 21, 2018, starring Jang Na Ra, Choi Jin Hyuk, Shin Sung Rok, Lee Elijah, and Shin Eun Kyung in the main cast. It tells a hypothetical story of a Korean emperor in 2018. A musical actress marries to the emperor of the country only to find the dirty royal secrets. Upon knowing the ugly truth, she joins hands with the emperor’s guard who is also looking for revenge from the Emperor.
It is an excellent drama where each episode will leave you wanting for more. It is highly unpredictable and interesting. “The Last Empress” do has a good clean ending, however the ending of actor Choi Jin Hyuk’s character was not liked by many. 9. Angel’s Last Mission Love
Released on 22 May 2019 “Angel’s Last Mission Love” stars Infinite’s L, Shin Hye Sun and Lee Dong Gun in the main cast. It tells the story of an angel Dan who need to find love for a blind ballerina Yeon Seo. This is his last mission before he can go to heaven. However, Yeon Seo is stubborn and Dan himself falls in love with her.
The drama has a beautiful story and is very interesting as well. However, many people didn’t like it’s ending as it was not clear whether the two lovers were able to live together in the end. Just like many fantasy Korean drama endings, here also the couple didn’t get to see each other often.
